Kurtz Family Seven Sleepers Barossa Blend 2008

2008

Is an unusual blend of Cabernet, Shiraz, Petite Verdot and Grenache - but it works. Deceptive! An easy-drinking, fruit-driven wine that's perfectly balanced and put together; the Cabernet component dominates. Blackcurrant and mint, its savoury, but there is a sweet lower layer of chocolate as well. Ample-weight with a supple consistency and harmonious complexity, it's most enjoyable and will be perfect with pasta.

Kurtz Family Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2008

2008

This is a cuddly wine that is easy-drinking, will go well with food, and shows some restraint. Flavours of blackberry, black cherry, plum, dark chocolate and mint have a meaty, spicy finish.

The blending of Shiraz and Mataro has added complexity to the dry grown Grenache and ageing for 18 months in French barrels has enhanced the combination of these three varieties, creating a full-bodied wine suited to most situations.

Lerida Estate Josephine Pinot Noir 2008

2008

As the wine ages, we are seeing our strategy for this wine starting to pay off, as the rich and varied fruit aromas and silky Pinot Noir tannins combine with the complementary oak and then unfold on the palate to give the true 'peacock’s tail' effect of a great Pinot Noir. This wine is just beginning to drink well now (and to climb up the medal placings) but the wine requires several years of careful ageing to realise its full potential.

Lerida Estate Merlot Cabernet Franc 2008

2008

This wine is a blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc grown at our vineyard at Lake George and matured in French and Hungarian oak barriques for 15 months. The nose exhibits fruitcake, plums, mulberry, raspberry, spice and violet aromas with vanilla oak overtones, while the palate is smooth, rich and savoury with black olive notes and fine balanced tannins and a long finish.

This wine matches dishes like lamb, smoked chicken, pheasant, kangaroo dishes and white mould and hard cheeses.

Capel Sound Pinot Noir 2008

2008

The grapes were hand-picked from a single Merricks vineyard. The wine was fermented in small batch open fermenters then left on skins post fermentation for approximately 8 weeks (this process helps develop long chain polymers which provide enhanced structure and mouth-feel). The wine was matured in 225 L new French oak barriques. The 2009 Pinot Noir shows intense spicy fruit with a subtle hint of mint on the palate.

Macedon Ridge Blanc De Blanc 2008

2008

Long and intriguing palate flavour.

The fine fresh fruit attack leads to a rich yet fine mid palate all kept tight and fresh by a minerally natural acid length.

Aromas of citrus zest, grapefruit and straw work in tandem with yeasty biscuit like
