Barbera Wines

Of the Italian varieties, Sangiovese and Barbera have had the most success in Australia. Barbera is perhaps the most suited to the country with its full-on plummy fruitiness and it is evidently at home in hot temperatures.

Chalk Hill Barbera 2010

Barbera Wines

Barbera is an amazing variety that offers great natural fruit balance combined with soft textured tannins. Due to these traits this wine is aged gently in large old oak vats. The leisurely maturation softens and enhances the flavours of this wine. The natural acidity and intense colour of this grape variety is intensified by the vineyard location. Our Barbera is planted at the very top of Chalk Hill in shallow ironstone sand. This location allows for the production of small berries with great depth of flavour and velvety tannins.
