Malbec Wines

Malbec is a purple grape variety used in making red wine. It offers characteristics that fall somewhere between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The grapes tend to have an inky dark color and robust tannins, and are long known as one of the six grapes allowed in the blend of red Bordeaux wine. The Malbec grape is a thin-skinned grape and needs more sun and heat than either Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot to mature. It ripens mid-season and can bring very deep color, ample tannin, and a particular plum-like flavor component.

Gipsie Jack Malbec 2006

The fruit for this Malbec comes from our loyal Langhorne Creek growers. Predominantly trellised on a Smart Dyson system, this allows optimum sunlight and exposure for full ripening and vine balance. This promotes flavour and tannin ripeness, not just sugar ripeness. Warm, dry conditions leading up to vintage provided full flavoured Malbec with great intensity.
