Shiraz is a dark-skinned grape grown throughout the world and used primarily to produce powerful red wines. In Australia it was also commonly called Hermitage up to the late 1980s, but since that name is also a French Protected designation of origin, this naming practice caused a problem in some export markets and was dropped.
The Syrah (Shiraz) grape was introduced into Australia in 1832. Today it is Australia's most popular red grape.
In the 2005-2006 growing season, total Shiraz plantations in Australia stood at 41,115 hectares (101,600 acres), of which 39,087 hectares (96,590 acres) were old enough to be productive. These vines yielded a total of 422,430 tonnes of Shiraz grapes for wine production. This made Shiraz the most planted variety in Australia
Shiraz Wines
This vintage shows more smokey, brambly complexity and sweet stewed fruits than previous years. Breathing time then reveals the typical dark cherries, anise and vanilla common to this label. Following the lead from the nose the palate has an earthy char-infused quality that initially holds a blanket on the fruit but which lifts to reveal black plum, sour cherry and a delicate powdery tannin. Fruit ripeness and acid are nicely balanced.

Traditional Margaret River shiraz aromas of red berries and cherries with extra interest in the form of liqueur chocolate and a hint of fragrant spice. A friendly, medium weight Shiraz with juicy sweet red fruit to start gently merging with the structural oak components through the mid palate. A slightly cool spice quality also runs through the wine contributing some elegance and length.

The 2010 vintage produced wine with great varietal integrity, balance and length. 2010 wines will sit nicely in the cellar, or drink well as a younger vibrant style.
The aromatics are fresh and vibrant with lots of floral notes, whilst the tannins are reflective of the even ripening throughout the growing season.
