The Doctors Riesling 8.5% 2010

Riesling Wines

The Doctors Riesling Profile Now assuming cult status in the New Zealand wine scene the Doctors’ Riesling continues to amaze wine critics and novices alike. Grown on  stony Condors bend vineyard at Renwick the fruit ripens slowly, in Marlborough’s cool dry autumn climate, gaining flavour interesting yet retaining all important acidity. Harvested early at low sugars the grapes are gently pressed, cold settled and given a cool slow fermentation which was arrested around 8.9% alcohol and 44g/l residual sugar. The final decision on when to stop the wine fermentation is very much decided on taste and acid/sugar balance.

Bird in Hand Riesling 2010

Riesling Wines

The Clare Valley is perfectly suited to the production of world class Riesling.  The hand-picked fruit is sourced from some of the highest altitude vineyards in the district.  The berries are harvested earlier to retain a higher natural acidity and then whole bunch pressed to extract only the purest juice. Honeysuckle Riesling is extremely limited and made in a slightly sweeter style by stopping the fermentation early.  A long cool ferment retains the sweet floral aromas and delicate lime & mineral flavours. This wine is made in a style that is best consumed while young, fresh and vibrant.  With bright acidity and low alcohol, it is a great wine to pair with spicy food.

Bird in Hand Riesling 2009

Riesling Wines

The 2009 vintage again highlighted the trademark lime and mineral notes from our family vineyard in the Clare Valley. Handpicked fruit was whole bunch pressed before undergoing a long, cool fermentation to capture the purity and integrity of the estate grown fruit and to capture the abundant lime, citrus and honeysuckle aromas. The palate mirrors the aromas and provides bright, crisp acidity typical in Clare, ensuring length and structure.  An elegant and lively wine that cans either be appreciated young or carefully cellared.
